Taiwan is rumored to be making the new Google phone or Gphone. The name of the company is High Tech Computer or HTC for short. Google has unveiled software for this phone which is called Android. Unlike the iPhone, software for this phone is open source. This software will turn a cell phone into a mobile computer. This software will be arrival to Microsoft Window”s Microsoft Windows Mobile Software.
Google is rumored to be planning on using the software to make money in the mobile telephone advertising arena. Another rival software for cell phones is called Symbian. It is designed in
Britain and three quarters of the Smart phones in the world use this operating system currently. Google
is bucking the trend of other cell phone software makers by making
software that is set up to be a universal standard and is programmable
by other companies.
Other people hope that Google will make complex cellphones easier to use. The Google phone will, of course, use Google search engine to search the Internet. Other
Google applications will work on the Google phone and there are plenty
of fun Google programs available that would be great to use on a cell
phone when you are bored or when you are out and about.
Estimates of when the Google phone will be for sale in some time in fall of 2008. Google has confirmed that the prototype is working. The model for this phone is that ads will support the wireless Internet and that you will not have to pay a separate fee for it. This will be a boon for people who cannot afford to pay for cellular phone Internet, like me. Whether this is a valid business model or not is a matter of debate. Of
course people buy a lot of things when they”re out and about so maybe
this would be a very valid model in that the ads would target people
when they”re in shopping mall mode.
One of the concerns about moving ever forward towards a mobile computer is the increase in stress on our bodies. We are already glued to the computer, many of us most of the day. Do we really want to be followed by computer everywhere we go? Another
way to look at it isn”t maybe that”s being able to carry a computer
with us wherever we go without looking silly might keep us from sitting
at our desks all day long if we have an option not to. I
know I would really enjoy being able to look up prices on a Google
phone when I go shopping to make sure that I”m getting the best deal.
