This summer I lost my cell phone and realized that there are no payphones around anymore when I needed them.I was with my daughter who had been nagging me for a cell phone, and decided to go to the local supermarket to get one of the Tracphones that I had seen near the checkout counter.My assumption was that a Tracphone would be easy to set up and that I could use it instantly.I liked the fact that I could only buy a certain amount of minutes and not have to set up a whole new phone system for my temporary use or for my daughter”s permanent use.
Most of what I assumed was correct but there are a few things that I was wrong about.The first thing was that you need a phone or a computer to set up your Tracphone , so if you are buying A Tracphone on impulse you will not be able to use it right away.The second thing I did not know about was that the minutes expire even if you do not use them.A Tracphone card only lasts so long.
To make matters worse, the Tracphone card that I bought did not work accurately.I am not saying that all Tracphone cards do not work but this one in particular did not.I took the cardback to the store where I bought it and they told me that I needed to call Tracphone is to get the matter resolved.This was a simple quick fix that I had been planning on.I did register the phone in the card online and received quite a few e-mails from Tracphone trying to sell me more services.They suddenly do not forget about you.Eventually I got a notice saying that the Tracphone cards that never worked for was expiring.
I still think that the Tracphone is a great idea for people like teenagers that have a limited budget or for parents who want a cheaper phone for their young children.I just think that it is not any less confusing than setting up a regular cell phone plan.I think in the future I will buy minutes online since I imagine that will be a lot easier to do than ensuring all the many numbers required when setting up the Tracphone using a Tracphone card.
